Phil Manzanera

The albums to hit the top spot are ‘Stranded’ (Dec 1973), ‘Flesh + Blood’ (May 1980), ‘Avalon’ (Jun 1982) and ‘Bryan Ferry / Roxy Music - Street Life - 20 Great Hits’ (Apr 1986). Drummer Paul Thompson joined in 1971, and his muscular playing helped keep the band’s experimental rock accessible. He appeared on the first two records, adding bubbly, noisy, and sometimes decidedly non-musical synth effects. Roxy Music: 10 of the best There are two Roxy Musics – and our 10 deals only with the first, those abrasive musical insurgents, not the smooth balladeers of later years . It’s an album best experienced in whole.

It’s a shame Stranded isn’t on the list – that one was a UK number one, so I thought it would be in with a shot. Paul Thompson Live even manages to bury the memory of 1990’s rotten Sign up below to get the latest from Classic Rock, plus exclusive special offers, direct to your inbox!Thank you for signing up to Classic Rock. A drawn-out but glorious song like Just Another High would never have been used in Phase 2, ditto Sentimental Fool.My CD copy has Virginia Plain on it, so I’ve always taken for granted that it’s part of the album. Those of us who are old enough to remember the original are always surprised when it starts to play, sort of like sticking Strawberry Fields in the middle of Sgt Pepper.I don’t usually mind, as long as it’s a good track – I actually like how my Rumours CD has Silver Springs in the middle. I was very disappointed with Siren when I bought it this year too, apart from ‘Drug’, of course. Rock Reviews: Big Big Train, Fontaines, D.C., and Black Midi

The top ranked albums by Roxy Music are For Your Pleasure, Avalon and Roxy Music. Ferry's love of pop melodies and his ability to croon, bellow, and vamp with such disarming power brought all these elements together. His use of a synthesiser to approximate traffic noises at the onset of While an experimental edginess is retained, the darker, harder feel of Ferry’s lyrics throughout drip with regret and the memory of excess, particularly on Roxy Music temporarily signed off at this point, although when they returned – partly due to Ferry’s plummeting solo profile – the band’s dual ability to provide such stomping power and angularity would not be long sustained.Eno’s experimentalism and atmospherics perfectly suit the novel feel of the songs, and fit their often peculiar construction. ‘Love is the Drug’ is the only one of their earlier songs I’ve ever heard in the wild, while arty/glammy stuff like ‘Editions of You’ and ‘Virginia Plain’ seems like it’s a bit too weird for radio.True. I like Fripp’s guest spot on Blondie’s Fade Away and Radiate too. only released in the US. All four are good, but especially Here Come The Warm Jets (kind of glam), Another Green World (ambient but with songs), and Before and After Science (kind of Germanic).I like glam…always have even if it’s just elements of it ..I’ll give Here Come The Warm Jets a try. Andy Newmark Roxy Music Albums: Ranked from Worst to Best #8 – Flesh + Blood 1980 The singles from Flesh + Blood are misleadingly strong – the torch song ‘Oh Yeah’ and the funky falsetto of ‘Same Old Scene’ are great songs that promise a great album. Jimmy Maelen Here are their eight studio albums, order from my favourite to least favourite.Did I underrate your favourite Roxy Music album?

Roxy Music sought to blur the lines between high art and pop art, making postmodern pop music.Roxy Music went through a succession of bass players, while Brian Eno was replaced by Eddie Jobson after 1973’s Roxy Music were phenomenally successful for a band with experimental tendencies – all eight of their studio albums made the UK top ten.

They left out Paul Carrack on the band mates section. I listened to the whole Studio library and Viva after I read your post. The other two are much of a muchness.Cool!

The top rated tracks by Roxy Music are Love Is The Drug, More Than This, If There Is Something, A Song For Europe and The Thrill Of It All.This artist appears in 1,840 charts and has received 10 comments and 74 ratings from BestEverAlbums.com site members.

I’m likely to vote for Country Life as my favourite, with Stranded a close second. And obviously there’s a lot of King Crimson out there. My favourite would probably be ‘Country Life’. Based on German radio during my teenage years, it’s definitely the more pop-oriented tunes like “More Than This”, “Avalon”, “Oh Yeah” and “Jealous Guy” – and, yep, “Love Is Drug.”I’d swop Stranded for Country Life.
